Expanding our investor platform
A look inside the process we have built.
COMPASS finds technologies inside the national laboratories that could become venture-backed companies, then builds those companies with the labs, founders, and investors. The investor platform is where investors come in.
Investors use it to see what the labs are working on and tell us what they think. That feedback informs which technologies COMPASS builds companies around. It also sets up the introductions and meetings at Waypoints, our lab-investor summit, where investors meet the research teams.
Here is how it works.
How the platform works
The opportunities shown are illustrative. Investors on the platform see the real batch.
Opportunities matched to your thesis
Technologies from across the national laboratories, grouped by theme and matched to your firm, so your time goes to the ones closest to what you invest in.
Understand an opportunity in minutes
Each opportunity comes with a short, investment-grade tear sheet: our best hypothesis on the problem it solves and the company it could become.
Share your read on each opportunity
Your feedback on each opportunity informs which technologies COMPASS builds companies around. When one interests you, you can follow up directly and help it move forward.
Get to know the teams early
Interest turns into introductions to the research teams and one-on-one meetings at Waypoints, our lab-investor summit, so you know each company well before it raises.

A small onboard instrument that tells satellite operators what the space environment is doing, so orbit predictions hold up during storms.
Orbit Weather
A small onboard instrument that gives satellite operators live data on the space environment they fly through.

- ◆ Venture BuildTRL 6
Satellite operators plan maneuvers days ahead through an upper atmosphere that is rarely measured where satellites actually fly. During a strong solar storm, conditions can change sharply within a day, and thousands of satellites may need to adjust their orbits at once.
The venture would build a compact instrument that rides on the satellite itself and reports local conditions in real time, giving operators and traffic-coordination services data they cannot get from the ground.
Pre-formation. A prototype has flown in space; the work ahead is a product redesign for volume and a first re-flight.
A seed round to fund the redesign, two flights, and first paid deliveries to design partners.

How actively would you want to be involved?

Your feedback is non-binding and does not constitute a commitment to invest. It helps COMPASS identify which technologies have venture potential.
