National laboratories.
COMPASS works with eight partner DOE national laboratories. The first batch's thirty technologies came from six of them. The program is run by the technology-transfer offices of SLAC and Sandia.
Program co-developers

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory explores how the universe works at the biggest, smallest and fastest scales and invents powerful tools used by researchers around the globe. As world leaders in ultrafast science and bold explorers of the physics of the universe, we forge new ground in understanding our origins and building a healthier and more sustainable future. Our discovery and innovation help develop new materials and chemical processes and open unprecedented views of the cosmos and life’s most delicate machinery. Building on more than 60 years of visionary research, we help shape the future by advancing areas such as quantum technology, scientific computing and the development of next-generation accelerators.

Sandia National Laboratories
Sandia National Laboratories is a U.S. Department of Energy laboratory with principal locations in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Livermore, California. Sandia is home to a world-class research and development community that delivers on national security missions while advancing the frontiers of science and engineering. Sandia’s foundational scientific research activities are key components of success, providing knowledge and capabilities that are essential for solving the most pressing challenges facing the world today.
Participating laboratories

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab), a U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science national lab managed by the University of California, delivers science solutions to the world, derived from hundreds of patented and patent-pending technologies plus scores of copyrighted software tools and published, peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Los Alamos National Laboratory
Los Alamos National Laboratory’s mission is to develop and apply science and technology to ensure the safety, security, and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce global threats; and solve other emerging national security and energy challenges.

Brookhaven National Laboratory
Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is a multipurpose research institution funded primarily by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science and located in the center of Long Island, New York. Home to seven Nobel Prizes, BNL brings world-class facilities and expertise to the most exciting and important questions in basic and applied science, from the birth of our universe to the sustainable energy technology of tomorrow.

Savannah River National Laboratory
The Savannah River National Laboratory offers a unique combination of capabilities, equipment, and infrastructure that are not available anywhere else in the United States. Originally created as part of the complex to maintain the US nuclear deterrent, the current mission and capabilities are a significant asset to the site, region and country to provide solutions to issues of national and international impact.
National Laboratory of the Rockies
National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) bridges research with real-world applications to advance energy technologies that lower costs, boost the economy, strengthen security, and ensure abundant energy.

Kansas City National Security Campus
The DOE Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) is a multi-mission facility focused on engineering design, manufacturing, and testing of National Security products for government agencies, national laboratories, universities and U.S. industry. The facility focuses on low volume manufacturing, product miniaturization, and special application hardware.
Strategic partners.

SRI International
A global leader in R&D with deep roots in Silicon Valley, SRI is an independent nonprofit research institute with a rich history of supporting government and industry. For almost 80 years, we have collaborated across technical and scientific disciplines to discover and develop groundbreaking products and technologies and bring innovations and ideas to the marketplace.
COMPASS role
Provides market-driven due diligence that translates lab innovations into viable, investor-ready pathways, ensuring only the strongest opportunities advance based on real-world insight.

Roadrunner Venture Studios
Roadrunner is the nation's first venture studio purpose-built for hard science company creation. The studio works with national labs, research institutions, and venture capital firms to turn research in advanced energy, robotics, and quantum into scalable, venture-backable companies.
COMPASS role
Leverages its venture consortium and NM State Investment Council relationships to connect COMPASS with investors, founders, and advisors, align on investor priorities, and identify talent and partners.
Open roles.
We are hiring founding CEOs and co-founders to build companies on national laboratory technology. Each posting describes the problem, the company, and the role.
These are the roles open today across our first cohort. If none fits and you have built in one of these industries, write to us.
Want to work with us?
Whether you're a founder, investor, advisor, or operator, we're always looking to connect with exceptional people.
