Physicist, Electron Optics

San Francisco Bay Area, on-siteFull-timeApply

About the company

The company is a newly formed, venture-backed hardware startup spinning out of Stanford and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. It is developing a next generation of electron-beam lithography systems for high-resolution, high-throughput patterning in semiconductor, photonics, and general nanofabrication applications.

The company is now building its first dedicated lab and prototypes. Early employees will work closely with the founding team and will have significant ownership of the technology, the lab, and the culture of the company.

The company is part of the COMPASS first cohort. Read about the venture.

About this position

The company is looking for a physicist to lead the electron-optics design of its electron-beam lithography columns. You will design and simulate novel columns, optimize existing columns, and validate experimental design results.

Responsibilities

  • Design and simulate electron-optic systems, including sources, particle interactions, and electromagnetic lenses.
  • Analyze and correct aberrations, and model space-charge and Coulomb effects at high beam current.
  • Translate these designs into hardware specifications in collaboration with mechanical and tool engineers.
  • Analyze experimental electron imaging conditions to help iterate on design choices.

Required qualifications

  • PhD or MS in physics, applied physics, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience with electron optics in electron microscopy, electron-beam lithography, or accelerator beam physics.
  • 3+ years of experience with charged-particle simulation tools such as GPT, MEBS, or similar, including space-charge modeling.
  • Hands-on experience with electron-beam systems and general scientific instrumentation.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with electron-beam lithography column design at an equipment manufacturer.
  • Experience designing magnetic and electrostatic lenses.
  • Background in high-current beam physics.

Compensation and benefits
